Hi there!
This site is a hub for all things walkability, bikeability, and livability in Columbia, West Columbia, Cayce, and the greater Midlands.
It’s where you’ll find advocacy updates, practical resources, and real ways to take action. If it helps make our region safer or more enjoyable to move through, you might find it here.
### Did you know that Columbia’s is ranked as the **12th most dangerous city in the U.S. for pedestrians**, according to [Smart Growth America’s *Dangerous by Design* report (2024)](https://smartgrowthamerica.org/dangerous-by-design-2024/)?
That’s unacceptable — but we also know how much potential this place has.
We’re inspired by [Strong Towns](https://www.strongtowns.org/), a national movement focused on making communities stronger, safer, and more financially resilient. We’re proud to carry that same energy here at home.

## What We Stand For
We want safer, more livable streets in Columbia, Cayce, West Columbia and beyond. We want better connectivity. And we want a beautiful network of paths and greenways across the Midlands that is safe and open for all.
Here’s how we approach this work:
- We are **nonpartisan**. We don’t get pulled into national debates or culture wars. We stay focused on what matters right here: safer streets, better sidewalks, and stronger connections between our communities.
- We try to keep things **easy to understand**. Clear, plain information that helps people speak up and take action.
- Everything we share is **verifiable and backed with data**. That’s how we build trust with neighbors, staff, and elected officials.
- We stay **respectful and constructive**. We focus on systems, not people. We believe in fixing what’s broken, not tearing others down.

## What We’ve Done So Far
In just the past year, we've helped make real progress:
- Helped get a **buffered bike lane on River Drive** (Dec 2024)
- Helped advocate for the new **Richland County Penny** for safer streets and better transit
- **Pushed for new sidewalks, safer intersections, and pedestrian improvements** across the Midlands
- Secured **half a dozen new ADA curb cuts** to improve accessibility
- Kept walk/bike safety a **priority across city and county conversations** at every level
---
## What We’re Working On Now
- **Updating Columbia’s GIS map** with more accurate and complete walking and biking infrastructure data
- **Building a Low-Stress Bicycle Route network digital map** for downtown Columbia
- **Continuing to push for the 40+ mile greenway** from Lake Murray to downtown & beyond
- Staying on top of the small stuff — **curb cuts, signal timing, crosswalks** — because it all matters! :)
